This morning we got up, and I packed up my things because Sam and Sarah were coming to pick us up at 10:30. After breakfast, Jackie and Betty, the head seamstress at the training center, came over to give my aunt the pants that she had made for her and a bracelet that she gave to me. When Sam and Sarah arrived, we all went to spread my grandmother’s ashes around Joy and Sam’s mother’s grave, Kati Kibuuka. Kati and my grandmother were terrific friends, so it was extremely powerful to spread her ashes there while Joy said a prayer.
After that touching moment, we left for Kampala where we would be staying with Sam and Sarah. Sam showed us his car rental shop with all of the cars and trucks that he rents out which was very impressive. Then we went back to Sam’s house, and he gave us the grand tour. We then had a lunch of samosas and fruit.
This evening we went over to Robin and Rose’s house for a big dinner party which, in the end, turned out to be a bit of a history lesson! I met some new family members and then, Robin and I got to talking about the rift valley and Dr. Leakey who found the first human skeleton in Uganda and then the railroads that went through Africa because of colonization. Then Robin and Cyprian told me all sorts of thing about Safaris and the “big 5” which were the most important animals that you would hopefully see. All in all, it was one of the more exciting nights
