This week has been a whirlwind of new people, places, and foods. The first two days of this week I was pretty nervous just because I had no idea what to expect. This week I learned quite a few new words that are necessary to know in Uganda and I learned some cultural customs. What I found the most interesting was how environmentally concerned everyone was. I learned that energy is costly here, so people never have lights on unless absolutely necessary. I learned quite a bit about the Ugandan history and the religious war that went on when Uganda was being colonized. As well as more about apartheid, all from Sam who seems to be a history buff. I learned a lot about the surrounding towns and villages, and I met so many new and interesting people and learned about their line of work.
This week has been pretty spectacular with the beautiful landscapes and the bustling city, the beautiful and kind people, as well as the precious children and all they want to do, is play. Of course in my case, each of my three weeks will all be pretty different from the first because I am doing so many various activities, but I have loved everything I have done so far, and I am incredibly excited for what lies ahead. From playing with the children to getting to know new people, to taking walks in the country everything has been so amazing and fresh to me.
I did not know that I would be meeting so many different people which has been a bit overwhelming and hard to remember all of the names. I was not really expecting anything because I had no idea what to expect going into senior project, so I kind of just took everything in strides. Considering Uganda is so different from anywhere I have ever been there is nothing for me to compare it to so everything was very new to me.
This week offered an excellent acclimation period for me, to the food, people, accent, customs, climate, and lifestyle. I feel much more comfortable talking to people and going off and doing my own thing and trying new things. I think that with the coming week I will feel even more comfortable with people instead of just sitting back and observing which is what I have been doing.
