Day Three: Uganda: A Full Day of the Nangabo Technical Training Center

9:00pm, May 2nd, 2019

Today we got up at around 7:30 which was not too hard because the chickens and birds had woken me up about an hour prior. We left for the Nangabo Technical Training Center, and Sarah and I met with Jackie, and we showed her all of the crafts and presents that we had brought for everybody. Some of the things we brought were ideas for crafts that could maybe be sold to help fund the center. We also brought lollipops.

I then went and showed the children how to play with pipe cleaners and what they could create. They made bikes, bracelets, flowers, and all sorts of things. After crafts, the kids and I played for so long, we ran around and went.

on the swings and the slide and the monkey bars. Everybody wanted me to count their fingers and make sure they all had ten of them. All they would yell to get my attention was “mzungu, mzungu” which means a white person is Ugandan. Then I tried to teach them how to play Duck, Duck, Goose, and tag but that was a bit hard to explain so we gave up and resorted to just running around. After running around, I had lunch in the library with my aunt and Jackie. One of the things we had was groundnut stew, peanuts are ground nuts, which was very very different. We then went around to some of the people who worked there and showed them how to make various crafts that could be sold for profit to help fund the school.

We then went back to Joyce’s house and took a short nap before we went over to Sophia’s house which is on Joyce’s property and helped her peel matoke and then she showed us the cows and where the calves are. After that, we went for a walk down to the village and saw all the little stores and people cooking and children running outside and even a baby goat hopping around. Although we did almost get hit by a bodaboda a few times, we made it back to Joyce’s house just in time for a delicious dinner which we just finished!
